What is TMJ?

The temporomandibular joint (TMJ) connects your jawbone to your skull, and acts like a sliding hinge. TMJ disorders can cause pain in your jaw joint and in the muscles that control jaw movement. These disorders of the jaw muscles, temporomandibular joints, and the nerves associated with chronic facial pain, can range from mild to quite severe.

What are Symptoms of TMJ?

  • Trouble chewing or talking
  • Pain in the jaw
  • Headaches
  • Neck pain
  • Jaw pain
  • Clicking or popping when opening and closing the mouth

Chiropractors can help diminish the pain associated with TMJ by helping to alleviate dysfunction and tension in the spine. As they do so, this helps to reduce the pressure on the different nerves, which then alleviates pain associated with TMJ.
